Implement it in your work!

The high levels of nervous tension negatively influence our quality of life, since they reduce energy and productivity, in addition, they generate chronic fatigue, overweight, hypertension; however, all this can be prevented with some techniques to reduce work stress.

In an interview, Philip T. Hagen, primary care physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic , says that implementing welfare groups at work is a good technique to reduce stress, improve employee productivity and encourage a healthier workforce.

The specialist says that to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method they analyzed the cases of 143 thousand employees, who enjoyed a wellness center, where they could exercise and eat a balanced diet to encourage a good rest (sleep at least seven hours)

At the end of the program, the doctor noted that of the patients who finished the program: 62% changed their work situation, 44% changed their sleep habits, 43% showed a different financial status.

In addition, 33% changed their eating habits, 33% transformed their close relationships and 32%, their recreation time.

By implementing this type of programs in the office, the participation of individuals in labor projects and in the welfare of the company will be remarkably observed.

However, the also doctor of the Division of Occupational and Preventive Medicine of Mayo Clinic details that workers with high levels of stress are less available to participate in these welfare groups, due to the lack of confidence and health problems.

This wellness program can be implemented in any company because they are economical, says doctor Philip T. Hagen, you only need to create different groups, which should be guided by an empathic person, who knows most of his colleagues.

Each of these groups will focus on various activities, that is, one can go for a walk to reduce stress; another will meet in an isolated room to take a nap, meditate or to talk about the day.

The specialist mentions that something more than traditional medicine is needed to keep employees healthy and with a good level of productivity, since both stress, interrupted sleep and being overweight are factors related to a poor quality of life.
