According to scientists from the Stanford and Pennsylvania universities , the treatment for prostate cancer could cause Alzheimer's .

In the research published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology It is detailed that androgen deprivation therapy could double the risk of developing Alzheimer's among patients who use it.

 

"Patients treated with this therapy were about 1.88 times more likely to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's in a mean follow-up period of 2.7 years compared to prostate cancer patients who did not receive ADT."

 

How can something good hurt?

Deprivation therapy androgens aims to reduce the levels of testosterone , because this hormone promotes the growth of tumors in the prostate .

This reduction of testosterone negatively impacts the brain and promote the development of Alzheimer's, as well as other side effects such as diabetes, depression, cardiovascular diseases and erectile dysfunction.
