Honey has therapeutic powers

In addition to sweetening life, honey has other therapeutic properties . Its use as a pharmacological remedy is old: our ancestors already knew its antiseptic, dietary, sweetening, toning, calming, laxative and diuretic qualities.

Hippocrates, in his "Considerations on the treatment of wounds" recommended curing them with honey. It is not bad advice coming from the father of medicine. And honey has a great antibiotic and emollient power, so it has also been used since always in the treatment of burns and ulcers, due to the inhibin , a substance with an antimicrobial effect.

Other doctors have made ointments based on honey and cod liver oil to heal infected wounds: it is stated that while honey acts favorably on disinfection and healing, the oil contributes to the regeneration of the epithelium.

In his book Fruits, vegetables and herbs, John Heinerman recommends the application of honey in the treatment of ulcers, injuries caused by herpes, cracks and sores.

Benefits in respiratory tract and lungs

Almost everyone knows that honey is always welcome in case of aphonia , hoarseness , laryngitis Y coughing fits . A combination of honey and lemon always lightens the discomfort in the throat.

What is not well known is its use in inhalations to clear the mucous membranes of the nose, larynx and above the pulmonary alveoli. Honey, says the Russian doctor, exerts a local bactericidal and general fortifying effect of the organism.

On the other hand, honey is a good expectorant and soothing cough. Although some patients with the first symptoms of tuberculosis take it with some assiduity, this healing property has not been proven.
