Health is a priority at the Carlos Slim Institute

As a non-profit organization dedicated to generating solutions to solve the main problems of Health of the population in Latin America, the Carlos Slim Health Institute makes its fifth installment of Carlos Slim Awards in Health 2012 , at the Soumaya Museum.

For five years, the institution has recognized the work of people and institutions committed to improving the health levels of the population of Latin America, for which 582 nominations have been received from 22 countries, specifically: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the United States, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, among others.

On this occasion, the prize for the exceptional institution will be for the Kangaroo Foundation , from Colombia, which is represented by the doctor Nathalie Charpak . The mission of this organization is to humanize the care of premature or low birth babies weight at birth, through the Kangaroo Mother method.

In Mexico, this method is still unknown, but in other Latin American countries it has become one of the most cost-effective alternatives, as it is a source of heat and stimulation for babies.

In as much, the presea to the best trajectory in investigation will be granted to the doctors Julio Sotelo Morales Y José Villar Mendiara . The first specialist has devoted more than 30 years to research in neurocysticercosis, which has benefited millions of patients. It should be noted that there are more than 60 million in the world suffering from cysticercosis .

Meanwhile, Dr. José Villar Mendiara conducted research in maternal health and infantile and developed the new model of prenatal care adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO)

On this occasion, with the Carlos Slim Health Award, a stimulus of one hundred thousand dollars per category will be awarded.
