Grooming situation in Mexico

According to an initiative presented by the deputies Ricardo Mejía and Ricardo Monreal In Mexico, grooming is linked to the verb groom, which refers to "approach behaviors for a specific purpose".

Meanwhile, Ministry of Public Security of the Federal District (SSPDF) He details that grooming is a type of harassment by pedophiles and pedophiles to abuse children and adolescents, through electronic means such as computers and mobile phones.

Their tactic is to contact minors, first as a friendly relationship to get children to pose naked on webcams or to establish virtual sex practices in the future. And the main steps that the pedophile follows are:

4. Blackmail and threats
5. Physical encounter or request for pornographic material

On many occasions, stalkers pose as teenagers to establish contact with children or adolescents without suspicion, through social networks and forums.

This type of cyberbullying has a direct impact on the psychological health of minors and is increasingly occurring in Mexico. Therefore, the SSPDF carries out cyber-patrols to reduce the incidence.

Nonetheless, 57 cases of harassment and harassment of minors have been detected from April 2013 to February 2014.

On the other hand, a survey conducted by the consultancy ESET Latin America, 23% of children consulted admitted being a victim of grooming.

 

Avoid it!

According to data from the SSPDF If your child behaves differently, does not use the internet as before or uses it in unconventional schedules, remains isolated, is afraid to leave home or to parties and does not talk about their daily activities, maybe he is a victim of grooming.

To avoid this you must explain to your children the risks of sharing personal information on the Internet, observe their behavior, recommend not to accept the friendship of strangers, establish schedules for internet use, disable the webcam, use content filters and have a relationship of trust with your children.
