The researchers explain that people who are less physically active are more likely to need special treatment or hospitalization to reduce the excessive alcohol consumption .

"Physical activity increases the benefit of treatment for people with alcoholism," says Dr. Ulrik Becker, a researcher at the National Institute of Public Health at the University of Southern Denmark.

Individuals who exercise four or two hours a week are 40% less likely to suffer alcoholism , compared to those who are sedentary.

Although the authors of the study detail that the consumption of alcohol in excess can be hereditary, environmental factors such as physical activity also influence the condition.
