Goodbye cigarette

After the celebrations and the excesses, it is time to pause and note in the agenda the multi-purpose purpose of giving up the cigar, and thus start with the right foot the year. But how can you stop smoking?

Adriana Ortemberg, author of the book I want to stop smoking Editorial Ocean, explains that there are several phases of abstinence which if known, can be overcome.

"From day 0, most smokers go through a series of stages or phases before becoming an ex-smoker. This is not a fixed rule, at some point we said that not everyone quitting smoking experiences the same sensations or assumes it with the same intensity, every smoker is a world ".

The author explains that the desire to smoke does not last all the time and that they disappear after a few minutes. Recommend when this happens, look at the watch for one or two minutes, take a deep breath or drink a glass of water or fruit juice; and do not forget that this anxiety will happen and each time will be more spaced.

Almost all the farewells have an emotional impact on those who live them, when we quit tobacco, we can also experience different stages until we see this culminated purpose. Adriana Ortemberg divides them into:

1. Euphoria: It manifests itself in withdrawal symptoms with different intensity and situations related to tobacco are faced. The mood is positive and you can recognize the first benefits in the body.

2. Mourning: Until ten or fifteen days. Withdrawal syndrome decreases in intensity, emotions related to loss or grief can be experienced, and this situation can be improved if the advantages offered by the decision are evaluated.

3. Normalization: Withdrawal syndrome decreases considerably, there is a sense of personal freedom and safety. "Evidence" such as parties or meetings can be presented, so it is necessary to remain firm and not to have access to a "puff".

4. Consolidation: Until thirty or forty days. The desire to smoke is presented with much less force, it can be thought that you have already overcome and smoke a cigarette and that it can cost you to relapse, so you are attentive.

5. Former smoker: From sixty days and can reach up to ninety. If the initial motivation remains present, the risk of falling decreases. The advantages increase: there is a feeling of optimism, greater self-esteem, healthier habits and saving money.

There are auxiliary therapies that help during this process such as acupuncture, neurolinguistic programming, homeopathy, conventional medicine, among others, which can be a valuable support.
