Gen, guilty of your weight gain

Your weight, a loss struggle? How many times have you done this is pre-tasted after observing how diet and exercise routine fail while your appetite and pant size increase; However, what causes your weight gain? It is possible that the key is in your hidden body since your birth.

According to a study conducted by the University College and King's College of London , the cause of weight gain or obesity is found in the FTO gene, which acts by inhibiting the feeling of satiety. This directly influences the amount of food eaten and the number of calories burned.

Directed by Jane Wardle, of the department of Epidemiology and Public Health of University College, research It counted with the participation of 3, 337 children, between eight and 11 years of age. Through examinations, the scientists determined which of them were carriers and if they presented a higher risk of suffering from this disease.

The gene acts by modifying the appetite, so that children who have two copies of the high-risk variant were less likely to have their appetite suppressed after eating; in addition, he was particularly interested in any food with a high caloric content.

Wardle also indicates that children with the most-at-risk variety of the gene have weaker satiety responses, which means they do not realize when they are full.

The effect of the gene is the same regardless of age, sex or social class. It is not that people who carry this variant of the gene automatically develop an overweight, but are more likely to eat more than necessary, which puts them in a vulnerable situation in a society full of temptations.

Although it was already known, through previous studies, that the FTO gene contributed to obesity. This research, for the first time sheds light on how components of our own body influence the appetite.
