Four ways to get intoxicated and how to prevent it

Toxics are synthetic substances capable of endangering health or causing death by accidentally entering the body. Intoxication is the body's reaction to the entry of a toxic which can cause injury or even death depending on the type of toxic, assimilated doses, concentration, route of administration, etc.

Causes

 

The causes of intoxication with very varied, among which we can find in general the following:

 

  • Excessive doses of drugs or drugs.
  • Inappropriate storage of drugs and poisons.
  • Improper use of insecticides, pesticides, cosmetics, petroleum products, paints or cleaning solutions.
  • By inhalation of toxic gases.
  • Consumption of foods in decomposition phase or canned products that are blown or with expired consumption date.
  • Handling or consumption of poisonous plants.
  • Ingestion of alcoholic beverages especially those adulterated.

 

 

According to the route of exposure can be divided into four types:

 

  • Inhaled (by respiratory route)
  • Absorbed (through the skin)
  • Ingested (through the digestive tract)
  • Injected

 

Depending on the dose and route of administration, the signs and symptoms that the person may present are.

 

  • Eye irritation
  • Altered state of consciousness or unconsciousness.
  • Lack of oxygen.
  • Nausea, dizziness and vomiting
  • Headache.
  • Convulsions
  • Bluish coloration of the lips or burns at the corners of the nose and mouth.
  • Indication of an insect or animal picket.

 

The treatment to follow is:

 

  • Remove the person from the source of poisoning if inhaled.
  • If absorbed, rinse the affected area with plenty of water.
  • Remove clothing contaminated with gloves.
  • Check if the person is conscious, breathes and has a pulse.
  • DO NOT induce vomiting.
  • Move to the hospital.
