Fear of failure: how to know if your child is stressed

The stress It is usually related to the world of adults and business. However, every day increases the number of cases of minors, adolescents and adolescents affected by this disease, especially during the school year and for fear of failure.

Stress is an automatic response of the organism to any environmental change , external or internal, through which is prepared to face the new. It is not a negative principle, on the contrary, it is an adaptive response that sets one's own resources before what is coming.

The problem is when the stress occurs for long periods of time and before stimuli that do not involve a real danger, then the organism can reach a stage of exhaustion in which reactions such as hypertension, headaches, upset stomach, sleep disorders, anxiety or appetite changes may occur.

In many and many children, adolescents and adolescents, the fear of failing a subject or not being up to the standards expectations of their mothers or fathers, among other reasons, causes them numerous symptoms of stress, such as irritability, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, depressive mood, low self-esteem and isolation.

Students suffering from stress have, in general, perfectionist, rigid and demanding parents. Experts in child psychology point out other factors that also influence the level of stress: overload of tasks, excessive responsibility, lack of incentives, conflicts with their schoolmates or public exposure of a job.

 

Chilling figures

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in the last 45 years the suicide rate has increased by 60 percent internationally and is currently among the three leading causes of death among the population aged 15 to 44 years old in both sexes. After a year, a million people commit suicide in the world and twenty million more are trying.

As regards Mexican adolescents and minors, Dr. Alejandro Cordova Castañeda, President of the Association of Mental Health Specialists of the IMSS, indicates that the number of suicides has tripled in the last 20 years.

Among the main causes include: the disappointments of love, economic or family problems, psychiatric illness and remorse. The men who are most disturbed are men between the ages of 12 and 34, while the women who attempt suicide are between 15 and 54 years old.
