Family ties: health secret of Latinos

Latinos are known for being warm, dedicated and loving. This is largely due to family ties and, thanks to them, we are sicker than US citizens.

A study by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (CDC, for its acronym in English) reveals that family ties contribute to a better health, particularly in regard to mental illness.

Researchers found that Latinos residing in the United States together have a higher life expectancy than white non-Hispanic citizens, why?

Due to the "Hispanic Paradox". On the one hand they are healthier (smoking rates are low and have a more balanced diet) and on the other hand, the emotional bond helps them to increase their defenses.

"Although they may feel sad or stressed by living away from their country and not being with their loved ones, they keep in touch with them and this helps them maintain their defenses up."

The communication and knowledge of "his people", encourages Hispanics to get ahead, not to surrender to the uncertainty of not knowing when they will see them again, "says Ana Penman-Aguilar, one of the heads of the CDC's investigation.
