Detonators of eating disorders

The figures are alarming and continue to rise. The National Institute of Mental Health in the United States, it is estimated that between 5 and 10 million girls and women suffer from eating disorders. Nearly 1 million men and boys also suffer.

There are different causes linked to eating disorders. They can be biological or genetic. There are studies that show that if there is an anorexic member in the family, increases odds 4 more times of another member suffering it.

It can also be caused by abnormal genes, such as the syndrome of Prader-Willi , which is characterized by insatiable hunger and delay in physical and mental development.

Another reason for the development of eating disorders they are the restrictive causes. For example, people who force themselves to limit their diet, can actually fall into excess. Apart from that, giving too much value or importance to physical appearance, especially by parents, could also lead to eating disorders.

More factors from abroad

Another great influence is how people perceive their body and the concept of beauty according to fashion or media. These force the woman to stay slim to be considered beautiful. These mistaken expectations eventually push women to use drastic methods to achieve them.

In the case of anorexia there are many methods of treatment that can be practiced. For example, patients have to go through three phases: restoring their weight, psychological treatment and rehabilitation.

These treatments are very important for patients with eating disorders so it is absolutely important that they consult or seek professional help.

Compulsive eaters

For people who they eat compulsively , one method could be to establish meals without berthing and improving attitudes related to eating disorders. They also include participation in healthy exercise, but not excessive, and other healthy activities.

People who suffer from eating disorders often think that what they are doing is part of normal activities. So they do not know they're sick.

Failing to recognize that you are sick can cause serious long-term problems. That is why it is important to give them all the support they need to achieve permanent rehabilitation.
