Control of emotions prevents overweight

People who are emotionally unstable have twice the risk of gaining weight, that is, people who do not know how to control their emotions tend to be twice as likely to be overweight, according to a study by the University of Florida .

According to the research published in the scientific journal Psychological Science, stress and nervousness are the main psychological factors that influence overweight, which affect the control that one has of one's own emotions and the way of eating.

This considerable lack of self-control leads us to eat more impulsively, feel less satiated, and slows metabolism, explains Angelina Sutin, psychologist at the University and lead author of the study .

In general, the increase or reduction of body mass are two of the most visible effects of the lack of control of emotions. In addition, fluctuations in body weight also enhance mood swings and can adversely affect our long-term mental health.

After applying a series of tests to about 2,000 participants, in the Baltimore Hospital , United States, the researchers observed that those who presented a higher risk of being overweight, were those who had low self-esteem and much more insecurity when making decisions.

The most dangerous thing, explains Sutin, is the risk of a vicious circle, since "the inability to control oneself in the face of culinary cravings further fuels stress and mood swings due to the feeling of guilt.

The emotional instability that has as a consequence the physiological changes previously referred to and that turns these attitudes into a vicious circle from which it is very complicated to leave.

"Mood swings make us fat, and fattening irritates us by making us return to the wheel again, so that the more time passes, the more weight we gain and the less willpower we will have to comply with a diet."

Therefore, according to specialists, it is best to learn to control emotions, in addition to psychological counseling when a change in diet or diet to lose weight begins.
