Cofepris authorizes metabolic formulas

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) of the Health Secretary Federal (Ssa) reports that he authorized the importation of metabolic formulas that require some babies born with inborn errors of metabolism .

The products and quantities authorized to the company Abbott Laboratories of Mexico are:

Ketonex 2 22 boxes (with 6 cans of 400 grams each)

Tyrex 1 2 boxes (with 6 cans of 400 grams each)

Hominex 2 4 boxes (with 6 cans of 400 grams each)

Glutarex 2 6 boxes (with 6 cans of 400 grams each)

Glutarex 1 2 boxes (with 6 cans of 400 grams each)

Ivalex 1 4 boxes (with 6 cans of 400 grams each)

Tyrex 2 2 boxes (with 6 cans of 400 grams each)

Through a press release, Cofepris clarified that it granted the trades to market the so-called products Phenex 1 Y Phenex 2 , for nutritional support in patients with phenylketonuria .

Additionally, last Friday, March 4 of this year, Cofepris received requests from laboratories Abbott to market Propimex-1 Y Propimex-2 , which are in the process of evaluation and will be authorized as soon as possible.

The metabolic formulas they are a nutritional support in the genetic disorders that prevent the metabolism of certain foods due to defects in the production of enzymes, which can cause disorders in the quality of life and even fatal outcomes, such as citrullinemia , which is a metabolic defect due to the production of defective enzymes that disrupt the circulation of ammonia in the urea cycle.

In this sense, the Cofepris, affirmed that the laboratory has been committed with the sanitary authority to present during the current month the requests to commercialize the rest of the pending metabolic formulas.
