Changes in causes of death, the main reason

According to information from National Institute of Statistic and Geography (INEGI), life expectancy in Mexico grows to 74.3 years and survival in women widens its gap in almost six years, compared to men, but why do Mexicans live longer?

However, the states with the shortest life expectancy at birth, approximately 73 years, are Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero and Chihuahua.

Changes in causes of death, the main reason

Currently, the causes of death among the population are diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart, liver and cerebrovascular diseases, representing 36.5% of total deaths. Therefore, the main reasons that Mexicans live longer are:

  1. Epidemiological change That is, more deaths are registered due to chronic-degenerative diseases than infectious or parasitic diseases
  2. Better health policies
  3. Greater coverage in medical services
  4. Implementation of new technologies
  5. Modification of habits among the population

For all these reasons, Mexicans survive longer. However, by sex, there are notable differences due to biological and social factors, since a woman is more likely to survive because she is less prone to accidents and has less violent behavior.

For its part, the Pan American Health Organization (OPS), the lifestyle of Mexicans helps to reduce risk factors in chronic diseases, that is, it is recommended to have good eating habits and perform physical activities daily.

Prevention and care are the best techniques to increase life expectancy and enjoy greater well-being. And you, how do you take care of your body to live better every day?
