Can you heal the body with your mind?

After years of suffering a debilitating illness, not to mention multiple surgeries and countless appointments with the doctor, the author Danea Horn she committed herself: "You are going to heal yourself with your mind ”.

Unfortunately, things did not work as planned, as she found herself consumed by such an overwhelming feeling of guilt for not seeing any improvement that she ended up changing course and relying on a focus more conventional, although still inspired.

Ironically, Horn's conclusion that the mind is not something that can or should be used to heal the body is not far from what he thought Mary Baker Eddy.

Referring to the human mind as opposed to what she calls the divine mind or God, Eddy insisted that "this mind is not a factor" in the healing of the body.

"Discard all notions about the lungs, the tubers, the hereditary phthisis, or the diseases caused by any circumstance," suggests Eddy in Science and Health, "and you will find that the mortal mind, when instructed by the Truth, yields to the divine power, which drives the body towards health. "

Not only did she find that this approach was effective in dealing with her own ailments, but also those of those who came to her to heal.

In statements made last year at the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco, Horn pointed to the "deep need for control" that makes the idea of using our mind to heal our body more attractive.

But it is just the renunciation of that mental power of grip that Eddy saw as essential for healing. In other words: "Do not do my will, but yours."

The disadvantage of such a notion is that we can suppose that it absolves us of any responsibility, placing the blame on God for each and every one of the results, good or bad.

For Eddy, however, putting things in the hands of the Divine was not a type of proposal such as: "Have, do it," but a conscious recognition of his will that operates in each and every one, which gives us all the ability to see any situation that we are facing under a light of affirming life that induces health.

The good news for Horn is that she is much better and even wrote a book designed to help other women cope with the stress of the disease.
