Camps for children with diabetes

The objective of the camps that each summer Organizing associations of people with diabetes is to get girls and boys to gain greater control over diabetes to delay or prevent the onset of metabolic complications.

The minors get a greater self-esteem and autonomy that helps them assume and accept their disease. It is very important that those who suffer from diabetes in childhood acquire more security in themselves and learn to accept the disease. They should know that they are not unique people in this situation and that despite everything they can carry a lifetime practically equal to the rest .

The 9 best reasons to go camping

  1. The camps encourage companionship.

  2. Sports activities are carried out equal to those practiced in other camps and it is shown that children can perform them as any other person who does not suffer from the same disease.

  3. They are taught self-care, self-control and respect for the disease itself. This reinforces its ability to resolve conflicting situations caused by diabetes such as hypoglycemia.

  4. In the camps there are usually practical and theoretical classes on insulin injection

  5. Practices are carried out on the use of different self-injection zones.

  6. Theoretical classes on diabetes, implications and nutrition are offered.

  7. Management of equivalences between different foods is taught.

  8. Practical and theoretical classes are given on advantages and disadvantages of using special products for children's diabetics

  9. They offer creative workshops, music festivals, camping, hiking, dancing, theater, magazines.

All these activities are designed and prepared by medical personnel specialized in the subject.

The main requirement to be able to attend the camp is that minors and adolescents use insulins to control their blood glucose (GS) levels.

The camp is an international, temporary, non-profit institution, which annually provides people living with the DM1, whether from Mexico or another country, education, fun and opportunities to meet their peers in a context safe and calm.

It offers a safe, supervised and designed environment to provide support, education and fun.
The camp provides an environment in which they can express themselves, learn to interact and collaborate with others to become members of the group educated and trained to participate in the team of health professionals who share responsibility for their health.
