Criteria for defining organ donation

Transplants and organ donation throughout the country should be done with defined criteria. Here we present the reforms to the General law of health in the matter:

  1. The law prioritizes the right of relatives to decide whether or not to donate organs of a deceased.
  2. If there is controversy about the extraction of the parts of a corpse, the spouse or partner will have preference in the decision.
  3. In the second place the decision will fall on the children, in the third degree it will be in the parents and in the fourth the brothers.
  4. With notification to the Public Ministry, allows the use of corpses involved in the commission of a crime, when they are not fully identified or family members are not located.
  5. Specifies that those responsible for this process must act with the speed and the opportunity that warrants the case.
  6. The reform also allows a foreigner to donate organs to a Mexican, as long as he can prove his regular stay in the country, and has a medical history in Mexico of at least six months, if he is not a relative of the recipient.
  7. It also obliges the governments of all states to establish transplant centers, which will contribute to the National Center for Transplants.

The donation is coordinated by a group of doctors, nurses, paramedics and social workers trained to promote the donation and increase the number of transplants that are made in the country.
