Breast reduction in men

The British Association of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAAPS) noted that last year (2010) the breast reduction males in the United Kingdom increased 28%.

This type of surgery is the second, in aesthetics, most popular in the mens after the Rhinoplasty (alteration of the nose).

The case is repeated in U.S since according to the American Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeons (ASAPS) in 2009, 17 thousand procedures of this type were carried out in that country, an increase of 50% since 1997.

This type of cosmetic surgery, usually, is done to treat a disorder called gynecomastia -the enlargement of the mammary glands in men- due to the fat deposits product of obesity, or product of a natural hormonal imbalance, by anabolic steroids, medications and certain types of cancer.

The doctor Rajiv Grover , president-elect of BAAPS, affirms that about 30% of the men who enter the clinic for this disorder are recommended to improve their diet and exercise more. But there are other cases, in which the operation is offered for "persistent areas" that are not eliminated with exercise and diet.
