At a press conference to publicize the achievements of open-water swimming crossings in the prevention of breast cancer Y cervico-uterine , the general director of the National Center for Gender Equity and Reproductive Health, Patricia Uribe Zúñiga , announced that changes in lifestyles, the delay of motherhood, the consumption of alcoholic beverages and tobacco are some of the factors that contribute to the development of breast cancer. He clarified that women with a hereditary history of breast cancer should request the study 10 years before of the age at which your relative was detected. He stressed the need for timely detection , because this condition has been increasing in recent years, going from a rate of 15 deaths per 100 thousand women over 25 in 2006 to 16.7 in 2010. This group of women organized a journey in which they participated 130 swimmers that started from Ensenada de Muertos in Baja California Sur and had as final destination Topolobampo, Sinaloa. The funds raised were allocated to the acquisition of a high resolution ultrasound, oncological equipment to detect neoplasms at any stage for the State Center of Oncology "Dr. Rubén Cardoza Macías "in La Paz.
