Bhandas relax your mind and body

Do you know what are the bhandas and where are they used? These are the keys that our body has to channel all our Energy , that is, they are muscular contractions that benefit us physically, energetically and mentally.

When we perform these muscular contractions or bhandas changes our blood circulation , the Pressure in the nerves and the flow of energy to the spinal cord.

In accordance with City Yoga , with them the flow of internal psychic energy (prana) is channeled towards the energy channels called nadis, so they serve to raise our level of consciousness and achieve the healing of the body. There are different types such as:

  1. Mula Bhanda or root key: It is located in the sexual organs. It serves to balance and stimulate the energies found in the navel, rectum and sexual organs, directing excess sexual energy towards creativity. It is stimulated by contracting the sexual organs, the navel and the rectum. First you have to contract the anal sphincter, then the sexual organs and end with the lower abdominal muscles and the navel to the spine.
  2. Uddiyana Bhanda: It is located in the diaphragm. Work with heat energy, open the upper center or the heart chakra, separating the lower triangle from the instincts and reactions of the upper triangle of the body, where the conscious acts are reflected. To activate this bhanda, we must inhale and breathe calmly; When you exhale, you have to hook the abdomen inwards and upwards, trying to hold your breath for a minute.
  3. Jalandhara Bhanda or neck brace: It is located at the level of the throat; directs the energy of the central channel. Seals the energy generated in the areas derived from the brain. The high glands such as the pituitary, pineal and hypothalamus are stimulated to secrete hormones by performing certain practices. This key concentrates secretions and opens the relationship between them.

These muscle contractions are used in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Gheranda Smahita . The bhandas can be applied independently, during the realization of the asanas or combine them with the techniques of breathing . Learn more about pranayama or breathing in yoga.
