Bad habits lead to colorectal cancer

The increase in the longevity of people, the adoption of bad eating habits and the maintenance of harmful habits have an impact on the health of the population in general, leading to an increase in the rates of overweight Y obesity in the Mexican population, resulting not only in conditions such as diabetes Y cardiovascular diseases , but also in certain types of Cancer , like the colon and rectum (Colorectal cancer )

 

Between the symptom Rectal hemorrhages, changes in bowel movements and abdominal pain are most common. The presence of noticeable symptoms or the way they manifest themselves depends a little on the site of the tumor and the extent of the disease.

 

The treatment consists of innovative therapies that help stop the progression of the disease, among the existing options is capecitabine, an oral chemotherapy that has been shown to be highly effective, safe and with fewer side effects than other conventional therapies, another alternative treatment is the Biological medications such as bevacizumab (indicated for advanced or mestastatic colorectal cancer), where the patient significantly increases their time and quality of life as well as disease-free progression.

 


 

The high mortality of this condition is mainly caused by a poor diagnosis or a late diagnosis only 2% of cases are detected at an early age, when the possibility of healing is greater. Unfortunately 40% of colorectal cancers are detected in the most advanced phase, when the life expectancy is maximum of five years.

 

In Mexico , it is predicted that the number of illnesses will grow to 54 people diagnosed daily adding more than eight thousand new cases by the end of 2011, turning it into a public health problem at the national level.

 

It is important to remember that for the early diagnosis If the population is over 50 years of age, a first colonoscopy should be performed after this age and then, according to the instructions of the doctor, once again every 5 or 10 years.
