An act that we can not stop?

"Words hurt just like blows." Aggression in all its expressions hurts in the same way the dignity and trust of the victim, who has the right to live fully and above all without fear; But why can not we avoid being aggressive?

According to the Directorate of Care and Prevention of Family Violence , in Mexico City, 96 of every 100 people who experience violence inside and outside the family nucleus are women.

An act that we can not stop?

The aggressiveness has diverse expressions: physical (blows), psycho-emotional (verbal insults) and sexual (harassment); But why can not we avoid it? Here we present three scientific reasons:

1. Be a winner A study, published in the Social Psychological Personality Science magazine , points out that the winners of a competition behave more aggressively towards losers than vice versa.

2. Candies A study conducted by scientists from the University of Cardiff He discovered that children who eat sweets and chocolate on a daily basis are more likely to become violent adults.

3. Lack of empathy. When a human being attacks another, the usual thing is that the mirror neurons of the brain activate to put themselves in the place of their adversary (empathy), "feel their pain", in this way, to avoid that we hurt them. In fact, empathy is considered the main inhibitor of violence. The downside is that some habits can "anesthetize" our ability to be empathetic and become insensitive to the suffering of others, as indicated by a study of the Columbia University in the United States.

Aggression is a natural response and adaptation to the threat, it is an emotion that inspires powerful feelings and behaviors that defend us when we are attacked.

Often behind this behavior is anger, which occurs as a response to frustration or a physical or psychological threat and we must learn to master not to harm ourselves and others.
