Allergic rhinitis increases in hot season

The incidence of allergic rhinitis It increases on hot days, due to the presence of allergens , such as grass pollens, flowers, plants, trees, homemade dust, mushrooms and even for food and medicines, said the otolaryngologist Juan Rosas Peña , Head of External Consultation of Regional General Hospital number 1 of Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS)

This disease, of immunological origin, is common in the general population, but it is more common in children and young adults between 5 and 20 years of age. The allergic rhinitis It is also linked to skin irritation, caused by polyester and sun exposure.

Given this panorama, Rosas Peña said that the IMSS provides therapy in the Family Medicine Units (UMF), which are complemented by immunology tests and allergy , whose results allow us to know the causes that generate it.

Symptomatology

The otorhinolaryngologist, said that some symptoms are: itchy nose, sneezing, rhinorrhea (runny nose) and, sometimes, decreased sense of smell. In addition, malaise, headache, sleep disturbances, difficulty in sports and social relationships.

The IMSS specialist commented that the origin of the allergic rhinitis lies in several factors, including the genetic load, which, like the asthma and the atopic dermatitis , have a strong hereditary component, almost always related to close relatives who have the same disease or with similar allergies.

He added that this condition can also occur due to intolerance to some foods: milk protein, egg yolk; fruits such as strawberry, apple and peach, among others, that trigger inflammation.

To avoid problems of allergy exacerbation, the specialist recommended: keep the houses well ventilated and illuminated with the sun and clean with a damp cloth, sometimes even with chlorine, because when sweeping or shaking the patient's discomfort may increase.
