All about chagas disease

The Chagas disease is a disease parasitic tropical, which is contracted by the bite of an insect known as "chinch besucona ", by blood transfusions contaminated congenital form or organ transplant . In Mexico, 1.65% of the population suffers.

The areas where there are more cases of this disease are the Mexican Republic, Central America and South America. On some occasions, it is asymptomatic , since the carriers have no knowledge of the infection and it may take up to 20 years to realize it.

According to Department of Microbiology and Parasitology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the incubation of the disease lasts 14 days and the most frequent symptoms are:

  2. Damage gastrointestinal by dilation of esophagus and the colon
  3. Fever and general malaise in the body
  4. Inflammation at eyelid (sign of Romagna )

As prevention it is recommended to maintain a good cleaning in the houses, change places that are not used, do not have more than two mascots and keep them out of the houses.

So far it is incurable , but tractable . Researchers of the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (Cinvestav), seek to identify the molecules to develop drugs Y vaccinations that control the disease.
