AIDS in Mexico is contracted sexually

According to data from the National Council for the Prevention of Accidents and the National Program for the Prevention and Control of Accidents 2001-2006, the following data on HIV-AIDS in Mexico are shown:

 

-The HIV-AIDS epidemic in Mexico has a predominantly sexual origin. This form of transmission has caused almost 90% of cases accumulated of that syndrome in our country.

 

-The epidemic is mainly concentrated in the group of MSM (men who have sex with men), with little more than 50% of the total cases accumulated.

 

-The cases of HIV-AIDS between men and women have a ratio of 6 to 1 respectively, the sector of people between 25 and 34 years old it constitutes the most affected group, with 41.6% of the cases registered in adult people.

 

-The WHO estimates that in Mexico they occur annually seven million new cases of curable sexually transmitted infections, including trichomonas (3.39 million infections), chlamydia (1.92 million), gonorrhea (1.36 million) and syphilis (0.24 million).

 

-In 2009, about 119,000 cases of HIV-AIDS in men and 24,000 cases in women were registered.

 

-In Mexico mortality has decreased for HIV-AIDS as a result of the growth in the coverage of ARV (antiretroviral) treatment.
