- Neonatal screening: through this study, tests are carried out to discover serious diseases in apparently healthy newborns.
- Folic acid: Folic acid in future mothers prevents neural tube defects. In 2004, the National Center for Gender Equity and Reproductive Health of Mexico estimated that there were around 23 thousand newborns per year in the country, with some neural tube defect.
- Creation of Integral Services for Prevention and Attention of the Disability (SINDIS): the purpose of these centers is that all newborns with defects at birth have the attention of specialized multidisciplinary teams, allowing them access to therapeutic and technological advances .
