  • Hormonal increase during adolescence (this causes the glands to produce plugs more often)

  • Hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy

  • Start or stop taking birth control pills

  • Hereditary factors (if your parents had acne, you can have it too)

  • Certain medications

  • Greasy makeup

What is the treatment for acne?

Acne is treated by dermatologists, specialized doctors who treat skin problems. With the treatment you try:

  • Heal the pimples .

  • Avoid the formation of new pimples.

  • To prevent scars .

  • Help reduce the embarrassment caused by acne.

The best way to prevent scars is to start treatment on time. The doctor can suggest medications with or without a prescription, some apply directly to the skin and others can be ingested by pills. The specialist will tell you if you should use more than one medication.

How should people with acne care for their skin?

If you have acne, some ways to care for your skin are:

  • Wash your skin gently. Use a gentle cleaner in the morning, in the afternoon and after doing exercises. Scrubbing the skin does not prevent acne and it can make the problem worse.

  • Try not to touch your skin. Squeezing or pinching the pimples can leave scars or dark spots.

  • Shave carefully. Use an electric shaver or razor to see which works best for you. If you use a razor, make sure the blade is sharp, wash your face with soap and water before putting on the shaving cream as it will help to soften the beard. Shave very carefully and only when necessary

  • Avoid being under the sun. Many medicines for acne can cause sunburn. Staying under the sun for a long time can cause wrinkles in the skin and increase the risk of skin cancer.

  • Choose your makeup with care.

  • Use only grease-free makeup. Look for the word "non-comedogenic" (noncomodogenic) on the label. This means that the makeup will not cover your pores. Some people have acne even when using these products.
