A drink to toast for a new life?

In Mexico, 46% of the population has consumed alcohol, and according to the public perception the problem begins after 14 years, as indicated by a study conducted by the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences which also indicates that the annual consumption of intoxicating beverages by women amounts to 1.4 liters, but what is the relationship between alcohol, the first pregnancy and breast cancer?

A study conducted in the United States suggests that the relationship between these three factors is very close. In the last six years, breast cancer has increased 28%, and Mexican women suffer more and more at an earlier age, so suggests Jaime de la Garza, specialist of the Federal Health Secretariat (Ssa)

A drink to toast for a new life?

Done by Ying Liu, from the School of Medicine, University of Washington , and a group of experts from the United States, the research analyzed the data of 116,671 nurses, between the ages of 25 and 44, on their medical and reproductive history, from the survey "Nurses' Health Study (NHSII)".

As a result, it was discovered that if you drink before the first pregnancy the chances of having breast cancer increased 34% compared to those women who opted for non-alcoholic drinks.

The study that was published inl Journal of the National Cancer Institute, not only establishes the link between alcohol intake with breast cancer but also with the risk of having another problem, a benign breast disease.

This is because during this period the breast tissue is particularly susceptible to carcinogens.

This research supports other theories in which it is suggested that alcohol consumption not only increases the possibility of breast cancer before the first pregnancy but also after the first menstruation.

Beyond the disease, fetal alcohol syndrome (caused by the consumption of alcoholic beverages in pregnancy) is the leading cause of delay in Mexico, as indicated Martha Romero Mendoza of the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM.
