7 chronic risks due to stress

Children who suffer overweight or obesity are more likely to suffer consequences of stress in their physical health and to control it through forms that are harmful to their health, which greatly affects families.

That is one of the results of the national survey "Stress in America 2010" that reveals the American Psychological Association (APA) , which was carried out by Harris Interactive online.

In this sense, the survey reveals that Americans are trapped in a "vicious circle" within which they control the stress by means of forms harmful to health to feel relieved, which tend to sedentary lifestyle , like taking naps, eating more and playing video games or watching television.

In addition, the lack of will and time are two of the main obstacles that prevent them from changing their lifestyles.

Therefore, the APA notes that both minors (from age 8) and adults are at greater risk of suffering from chronic disorders that affect physical and emotional health, such as:

1. Cardiovascular diseases

2. Diabetes
3. Depression
4. Obesity
5. Sleep disorders
6. Eating disorders
7. Migraine.

The above affects not only the children, but also the whole family: "Overweight children were more likely to report that their parents are stressed frequently or all the time, compared to those who consider their weight to be normal, "reveals the APA .

"It is necessary that everyone, including the medical community, take the stress very seriously because it could easily become our next public health crisis. "

However, due to the fact that current health strategies do not help to face the difficulty to modify the bad habits of life, the APA explains that it is necessary to introduce behavioral health treatments that can help make these changes, especially for children who suffer from stress and their families.
