6 tips to practice exercise with diabetes

Currently there are many professional athletes who live with diabetes and can practice exercise without any problem, you just have to take some recommendations into account. 1.- Check glucose levels: Before practicing exercise you must verify that your glucose is above 130 mg / dl. If you are below these figures you should eat something with carbohydrates , like a fruit or a cereal bar.

2.- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes: Preferably, that your clothing is made with dry-fit fabric, especially if you are someone who perspires a lot; try to have another shirt, dry, to change as soon as you finish exercising. The shoes should not have internal seams and the adjustment in the heel area should be firm.


3. Use lenses and sunscreen: When practicing exercise In the open air it is essential that you protect yourself from the sun. Remember to dress according to the weather: long sleeves if it is cold and short sleeves, or without them, if it is sunny and hot.


4. Heating and stretching: Before and after exercising, perform a 10-minute warm-up routine before entering fully into your training or competition. At the end remember to do a stretching session for 5 to 10 minutes so that your muscles recover from the effort and do not suffer from pain and cramps.


5. Hydrate before, during and after the exercise: For this it is advisable to drink simple water, as isotonic drinks contain a considerable amount of sugar and you must use them with great care.

6. Personal identifier: Bring a plaque where your name comes, kind of blood , kind of diabetes , the medication you use and a phone number where someone can communicate in case of any eventuality.


Besides, the Mexican Diabetes Federation recommends that you use a kangaroo to carry your glucometer , sweets, cereal bars, money, cell phone and car keys, among other things.
