6 tips for the Hanukkah dinner

For the Hebrew community, the word Hanukkah means "dedication", and is also called the Festival of Lights . This festival is celebrated for 8 days commemorating the revolt of the Maccabees, where the Israelis were victorious, managed to claim the Temple of Jerusalem, and thereby recover their independence over the Greeks.

The Hannukkah festival is a time to share and enjoy in the company of family, friends and, of course, food. This does not mean that you should neglect your diet , so we give you some tips to make your dinner perfect.

1.- Instead of having the traditional latkes potato dish, try to bake them and stick a few vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli . You will get the same taste, but with less calories and fat. In addition to that the dish will have more nutrients.

2.- For the topping of the potato latkes, replace the sour cream with low-calorie Greek yougur or an apple-based sauce. This will eliminate the greasy content.

3.- Light up your matza balls by cooking them with non-hydrogenated vegetables and use margarine instead of butter. This will take an enormous amount of calories from the dish.

4.- When you start preparing your main dish, try to serve it with lean meat such as grilled or baked chicken or turkey breast instead of typical brisket . Always remember to cut the extra fat before and after cooking the meat.

5.- The donuts fried in oil (Sufganiot) is one of the favorites during the Fiesta de las Luces. For reduce the amount of calories of this traditional dish, make the size of the donuts a little smaller and try to bake them.

6.- Exchange currencies of dark chocolate and milk chocolate. In small quantities, dark chocolate has many beneficial nutrients such as antioxidants that fight diseases.
