27.6% of pregnancies occur in adolescence

The last National Survey of Health and Nutrition (ENSyN) shows that the pregnancy rate in girls and adolescents, from 12 to 19 years old, was 79 per thousand women.

The specialist Huliana Romo Huerta , coordinator of the Center of Attention to Pregnant Teenagers of the Civil Hospital "Dr. Juan I. Menchaca " , commented that pregnancy in adolescence is an impediment to improve the educational, economic and social conditions of women.

In statements to Diario Provincia , the expert pointed out that many times teenagers, between 12 and 19 years old, see their life reduced by a maternity early and sometimes for an unplanned marriage; that is, they have to abandon their studies and it is difficult for them to find a job. In addition, young women can suffer depression Y eating disorders .

The doctor pointed out that the main causes of pregnancy unwanted are: the early onset of sexual intercourse , violations , lack of affect, family care, low self esteem , curiosity and the inappropriate use of contraceptives .

The pregnancy in adolescence it implies a high risk for mother and child, and is one of the main causes of maternal-perinatal death in the country.
