2 million Mexicans have fibromyalgia

For every 10 women, a man lives with fibromyalgia , debilitating chronic disease with multiple symptoms, mainly the pain . It is known that at least 74% of patients suffer deterioration in their quality of life, so that their physical activity and their emotional state undergo various changes, affirmed the Lilia Andrade , surgeon of the La salle university .

In this sense, the specialist in rheumatology of the Hospital November 20, Social Security Institute for State Workers (ISSSTE), said that at least 2 million Mexicans live with this disease.

Andrade, who presented a study on Fibromyalgia in Latin America , conducted in October 2010, reported that this condition is disabling, because 47 and 67% of patients with employment, in a year, missed at least 15 days to work due to symptoms. The study involved 300 patients with fibromyalgia and 604 doctors in three countries. Some of the characteristics of the fibromyalgia are:

1. Pain in various parts of the body
2. Anxiety
3. Stress
4. Depression
5. Sensation of physical immobility

However, the specialist clarifies that since it is a multifactorial disease, the diagnosis is usually late, since it can take 6 years, before a patient knows that he lives with fibromyalgia :

"The reason is the misinformation that exists about this disease and that people take a long time to go to the doctor; If someone experiences any of these symptoms, it is important that they go to the doctor, to rule out any ailment. "

In an interview for GetQoralHealth , the patient Rocío Fabela Lozada, explains the symptoms and diagnosis of fibromyalgia:

This May 12 is celebrated on World Fibromyalgia Day , so he clarified that on average people take two years to go to consultation, because they do not even know what is happening to them: "The message is that there is a solution, since it is a treatable disease, with the use of neuromodulatory drugs ".
