10 tips to avoid respiratory diseases

The low temperatures , abrupt climate changes and the environmental pollution they are factors that contribute to the appearance of common winter diseases: flu , cold , cough , otitis (ear infections), bronchitis Y laryngitis ; thus, like other chronic respiratory diseases that can end up causing death: pneumonia , asthma and chronic respiratory problems such as pneumonia.

The greatest risk of these diseases is not to suffer them but the easy spread of them among the population. Therefore, the Mexican Federation of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (FESORMEX), calls on the entire country not to wait to have any symptoms that indicate the start of a respiratory disease .

10 tips of prevention

1. Drink plenty of fluids continuously ; without considering industrial beverages as liquids (juices, soft drinks, etc.)

2. Protect yourself from the cold by dressing warmly . Do not take off your coat if you feel body heat. Take care of the use of heating.

3. Do not expose yourself to the cold (morning and night) with wet hair.

4. Eat a balanced diet , supported by vitamin supplements (C, D, Zinc, Omega3, Omega6) and minerals, which help create defenses in the body.

5. Eat foods that contain vitamin C : orange, grapefruit, lemons, carrot, papaya, and guava. This type of food has an effect on the respiratory mucosa allowing better local action of antibodies.

6. Do not do any kind of physical exercise outdoors in the early hours of the morning and at nightfall.

7. Sleep an average of 8 hours daily .

8. Take minutes of rest during work hours.

9. Wash hands with soap and hot water regularly both children and adults; mainly, when you have had contact with a sick person.

10. Cold symptoms usually last 1 to 2 weeks. If after this period your symptoms do not improve, it may be due to a allergy, cold complication or for some other reason. The best option is to go to the doctor.
