10 reasons to stop smoking

According to the WHO there are one thousand 100 million smokers in the world and year after year around four million people die from illnesses associated with tobacco consumption.

In Mexico, smoking is considered a public health problem, because of the risk it represents for the physical wellbeing of the consuming population, both passive and active. Here some of its effects:

1. If you smoke, you can develop cancer of the mouth, throat, lungs and bladder.

2. Smoking decreases the supply of oxygen to tissues, which can cause heart attacks or strokes.

3. It increases the cholesterol in the blood and with this, the risk of developing a cardiovascular disease.

4. Smoking damages and constricts blood vessels, which affects the entire circulation of the body, including that of the feet.

5. If you smoke and have diabetes, you increase the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease by three times that of another person with diabetes who does not smoke.

6. Having diabetes and smoking increases the risk of developing damage to your nerves and kidneys.

7. If you smoke, the frequency of respiratory infections increases.

8. The blood glucose increases.

9. Smoking lowers vitamin C levels in the blood, irritates the stomach.

10. It generates insomnia and accelerates the aging process throughout the body.
