10 actions vs self-sabotage

In psychology, the term self-sabotage It means unconsciously doing things that prevent us from achieving what we want. If we made a detailed and honest analysis of many of our "failures", we would probably realize that we did not achieve it because of something we have done or failed to do. Therefore, in GetQoralHealth we offer you 10 actions we can do to avoid self-sabotage:

  1. Accept it: The first point is to observe our behavior and accept that we are self-sabotaging.
  2. Analyze: Recognize and explore our thoughts, habits, attitudes, emotions and especially our fears, to understand how they may be influencing our behavior.
  3. Find the causes: Check our self-esteem and see if this can be the cause of our behavior.
  4. Do this exercise: The Mexican psychologist Silvia Russek, specialist in Clinical Psychology and individual and couple therapy , points out that the following exercise will help you find the reason why you sabotage yourself. Write on a sheet of paper: I'm scared ..., I'm worried ..., if I achieve my goals ..., if I succeed ..., most likely ... if my life changes ..., success causes ..., I'm afraid that ... I believe that if I achieve what I want ... Answer the questions quickly, without thinking or analyzing the answers, at the moment of answering. Then analyze your answers, to see what it is that leads you to self-sabotage.
  5. Find your needs: Work on improving your self-esteem and discovering what you really want, what your real needs are.
  6. Benefits: Analyze what secondary gains you get when you self-sabotage.
  7. Goodbye exaggerations: Do not punish or scold, because it does not help.
  8. Identify self-sabotage : According to the causes that you identified, discover which are the phrases that you say or think and maintain the self-sabotage and change them for positive thoughts, more appropriate to what you want to achieve.
  9. Improve your thinking: Choose phrases such as those you would say to the person you most admire and most love, if you heard her express those negative or devaluation thoughts.
  10. Goals: Set small and achievable goals and work on them to obtain them. Reward yourself every time you achieve it.

Said the American writer Alyce P. Cornyn-Selby : "Self-sabotage is when we say we want something and then we make sure it does not happen". And you, how many times do you self-sabotage during the day?
